Solving A Biological Problem

Data organization and data analysis

Biology

To organize data, use tables or graphs, and don't throw out any data that doesn't match what you expected. Surprising data can sometimes lead to important discoveries. After collecting data, you may need to use math to see if your idea is right or wrong.

In analyzing data, statistical methods such as ratio and proportion are used. Ratio compares two values as a quotient (1st/2nd), like the 4:12 ratio of sepals to petals in a flower, which can be expressed as 1:3. Proportion states that two ratios are equal, like 4:12::1:3.
