Molecular Formula and Empirical Formula

Chemistry

Molecular Formula - The Molecular formula is the formula which shows actual number of atoms of each element present in a molecule.

Molecular formula Mass calculated by adding atomic weights of its atoms

for example Benzene it contain six Carbon and six Hydrogen atom so molecular formula will be C6H6C_6H_6.

Empirical Formula - The formula showing minimum relative numbers of each type of atoms in a molecule

It shows simplest ratio of each atoms present in a molecule and does not have actual number of atoms in the formula

for example - Benzene has molecular formula C H . Which has simplest ratio f hydrogen and carbon 6 :6 is 1:1, so the empirical formula becomes CH.
