Quadrants of Cartesian Plane
There are 4 quadrants in the cartesian plane
In quadrant I, both the values of x and y of an order pair are positive i.e. x>0 and y>0. For example lies in quadrant I
In quadrant II, value of x is negative while value of y is positive i.e. x<0 and y>0. For example lies in quadrant II
In quadrant III, both the values of x and y of an order pair are negative i.e. x<0 and y<0. For example lies in quadrant III
In quadrant II, value of x is positive while value of y is negative i.e. x>0 and y<0. For example lies in quadrant IV
For plotting the points on cartesian plane for example plotting
First recognize the quadrant (in this case quadrant I)
Then starts from the origin and move 3 units on x-axis from the origin.
Last move two units upward from the x-axis.
Geometric shapes on Cartesian Plane
For drawing the shapes like linear lines, triangles, rectangles etc on cartesian plane.
First decide the scale of graph paper.
Then put the points and join it.
In a graph paper there are small squares and big squares. Every big square has 10 rows and 10 columns of small squares.
For example
Draw a rectangle ABCD whose vertices are
and .
For scale observe the largest number of each axis
For x-axis it is 4 and for y axis it is -5.
Take scale of your choice because the required numbers aren’t that big.
Scale: On X-axis 1 unit= 5 small squares On Y-axis 1 unit= 5 small squares
Now make the cartesian plane my drawing both the number lines and put all four points on the cartesian plane.
In last join the point together so that they can make the required shape.
