MOMENTUM:

“Momentum is qualitatively defined as the quantity of motion present in an object.”

OR

“Momentum is quantitatively defined as the product of mass and velocity of an object.”

  • Momentum tells us the impact of force when two bodies come in contact with each other.

  • Greater the mass, greater will be the momentum. Similarly faster the speed, greater will be the momentum.

  • It is a vector quantity.

  • It is represented by pp.

Formula:

Momentum=MassXVelocityMomentum \thinspace = Mass \thinspace X \thinspace Velocity

OR

p=mv\boxed {p = mv}

S.I Unit:

Momentum=MassXVelocityMomentum \thinspace = Mass \thinspace X \thinspace Velocity

Multiply and Divide by “ss”:

=(Kg)(ms)(ss)= (Kg) \thinspace (\frac{m}{s}) (\frac{s}{s})

=(Kg)(ms2)s= (Kg) \thinspace (\frac{m}{s^2}) {s}

Since, (Kg)(ms2)=N(Kg) \thinspace (\frac{m}{s^2}) = N

Momentum(p)=Ns\boxed {Momentum (p) = Ns}
