The equation “” suggests that the longer time it takes to stop the moving body, the smaller force is required. Based on this relation of stopping force and Impact (collision) time of body we have designed safety devices for our day to day use. some of them are given below:
CAR BUMPERS:
Bumper and grill systems are designed to prevent or reduce physical damage to the front or rear ends of car in collision condition by absorbing the energy and providing extra time to reduce speed before collision.
CAR SEAT BELT:
Seat belts are very important for passenger safety. They hold the passenger from moving suddenly. This results in extra time for change in momentum of passenger. This means that force will be less fatal for the passenger. Air bags in car also provides safety in the same manner.
SAFETY PACKING:
Safety bags and Styrofoam packing is used to prevent damage to fragile objects or glassware due to sudden shock.
HELMETS:
The helmets protect from direct strike on head and provide extra time to reduce speed before something strikes to it. Different safety helmets are used by workers, bike riders and sportsmen.
