POWER:

The rate of doing work is called power.

OR

The amount of energy transferred per unit time is called power.

MATHEMATICALLY:

$P = \frac {Work \;done} {time\, taken}$

The SI Unit for power is $J/s$.

The unit is also called $Watt \;(W)$.

$1 \;J/s = 1 \;Watt$

The power of a body is said to be ‘1 watt’ if it does work at the rate of 1 Joule per second.

Horsepower: Horsepower is also an important unit of power.

$1 \,hp = 746 \;Watt$
