Work

Physics

Work:

The amount of work is the product of force and the distance moved in the direction of force. The S.I unit of work is Joule (J) other units of work can be Foot-Pound & Erg.

1 Joule = 1Nm

W=FdcosθW = Fd \,cos\,θ

F=F= Force applied

d=d= Distance covered in the direction of force applied

θ=\theta= Angle between the force applied and the distance covered

MAXIMUM WORK:

If θ=0\theta= 0, then as cos0=1\cos 0 = 1,

The formula becomes

W=Fd×(1)W = Fd \times (1)

W=Fd\boxed{W= Fd}

This means when the force applied and the distance the object moves as a result are parallel to each other maximum work is done.
