Pressure in fluids

FLUIDS:

“A fluid is a substance that can flow and take on the shape of the container that holds it. Liquids and gases are both considered fluids because they have the ability to flow”.

FLUID PRESSURE:

The pressure exerted by fluids is known as fluid pressure. It acts in all directions. This is because the molecules of fluids move around in all directions, causing pressure on every surface they collide with.

FACTORS AFFECTING FLUID PRESSURE:

1. Pressure “$P$” is directly proportional to the depth “$h$” of fluid. The deeper one dives into fluid, greater will be the pressure. Twice the depth means twice the pressure.

2. Pressure “$P$” also depends upon the density “$\rho$” of the material. If a material is five times denser than water, the pressure will be five times greater.

MATHEMATICAL EXPRESSION:

At a depth “$h$” in a fluid of density “$ρ$”, the pressure “$P$” can be written as:

OR

$\boxed{P=\rho g h}$
