The Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) is a standardized MCQ based entrance exam required for pre-medical students seeking admission to public and private medical colleges in Pakistan for MBBS and BDS degrees. A student’s likelihood of getting admission in a medical college is highly dependant on them performing well on their MDCAT exam.
In 2024, The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) had decided to conduct the MDCAT exam on 22nd September 2024, Sunday. It was being conducted for aspiring medical students on the same date in Pakistan and abroad. According to estimates for 2024, 200,000 students were likely to sit in the exam.
However, reconduct was announced for appeared for MDCAT out of DUHS and SZABMU. It is predicted for 2025, that the MDCAT Exam will be held right after board exams in July. There has been talk of key changes in the MDCAT Exam for 2025 including the exam date, syllabus, paper pattern and rules around transparency and fairness. In accordance with the latest Admission Regulations of the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council, updated on July 14th 2024, candidates aiming to appear for MDCAT Exam 2024 in Pakistan and gain admission to medical and dental colleges must meet specific MDCAT eligibility criteria. To be eligible for MDCAT registration, applicants must have completed their Intermediate/HSSC Pre-Medical Group or an equivalent examination (such as A-Levels, 12th Grade, etc.) with at least 55% unadjusted marks, which corresponds to 650 out of 1100. Additionally, students must have obtained more than 80% marks in both 9th and 10th grades.
It's important to note that candidates who are awaiting their examination results are still eligible to apply for the MDCAT in Pakistan. This provision allows prospective students to submit their applications for MDCAT 2024 even if their final examination results have not yet been released.
