VOLUME:
It is the space occupied by an object. The SI Unit of volume is cubic meter ().
VOLUME OF REGULAR SOLIDS:
Volume of solids with a regular shape can be calculated using formulae.
Example:
Volume of cube:
Volume of sphere:
Volume of a cylinder:
MEASURING CYLINDER:
Measuring cylinder is a glass or plastic cylinder with a scale-graduated in cubic centimeters or milliliters (ml). It is used to find the volume of liquids. When a liquid is poured, it rises to a certain height in the cylinder. The level of liquid in the cylinder is noted and volume of the liquid is obtained.
Using measuring cylinder to measure the volume of a liquid:
To read the volume correctly we should keep the eye in level with the bottom of the meniscus of the liquid surface.
Using measuring cylinder to measure the volume of an irregular solid:
The volume of irregular solid is calculated by subtracting the original volume of liquid from the raised volume of liquid.
Volume of the object = Final Volume - Initial Volume
