What is NUMS MDCAT?
The NUMS MDCAT is the entry test conducted by the National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) for admissions to MBBS and BDS programs at Army Medical College, CMH colleges, and other NUMS-affiliated institutions across Pakistan. It is a separate exam from the national PMDC MDCAT — with a different date, format, and conducting body.
If you are applying to government medical colleges, you need the PMDC MDCAT (held on 20 September in 2026). If you are applying to NUMS-affiliated colleges — including Army Medical College and the CMH network — you need the NUMS MDCAT (held on 13 September in 2026). Many students sit both to maximise their options.

When is NUMS MDCAT 2027?
NUMS has not announced the NUMS MDCAT 2027 date yet. NUMS sets its own date in its yearly admission advertisement, separately from the PMDC MDCAT. These were the requirements for NUMS MDCAT 2026 — expect similar rules for 2027, and check the NUMS advertisement once it is out. There was no age limit, and result-awaiting candidates could apply.
NUMS MDCAT Exam Format & Marking Scheme

Mistakes to avoid in NUMS MDCAT prep
NUMS MDCAT is a different exam from PMDC MDCAT — different format, different merit formula, different colleges. Most students who miss their target make the same three mistakes.

Ignoring FSc marks in merit planning

NUMS has not announced the 2027 fee yet. For reference, the NUMS MDCAT 2026 fee for Pakistan centres was Rs. 7,500 (regular) or Rs. 8,500 (late fee). For the international centre (KSA), it was Rs. 40,000 (regular) or Rs. 50,000 (late fee). Fees were non-refundable and non-transferable.
For NUMS MDCAT 2026, candidates needed a minimum 60% aggregate in HSSC (FSc Pre-Medical) or an equivalent 12th-grade qualification, with Biology and Chemistry as mandatory subjects plus either Physics or Mathematics. Pakistani citizens, Overseas Pakistanis, Dual Nationals and Foreign Nationals were eligible, and result-awaiting candidates could apply. Candidates under 18 needed a NADRA Juvenile Card, and A-Level candidates an IBCC equivalence certificate. There was no age or attempt limit. Expect similar rules for 2027 — check the NUMS advertisement once published.
NUMS MDCAT 2026 had two parts. Part A: 150 MCQs covering Biology (55), Chemistry (40), Physics (40) and English (15), in 2 hours 45 minutes — carrying 95% of the merit weightage. Part B: 50 MCQs (Psychological Test) in 15 minutes — carrying 5%. Total: 200 MCQs in 3 hours, with no negative marking. NUMS has not yet confirmed the 2027 pattern.
NUMS MDCAT and PMDC MDCAT are two separate entry tests for different sets of medical colleges. NUMS MDCAT is conducted by NUMS for Army Medical College, CMH colleges and other NUMS-affiliated institutions. PMDC MDCAT is conducted by PMDC for government medical colleges across Pakistan. In 2026, NUMS MDCAT was on 13 September and PMDC MDCAT on 20 September. NUMS has 200 MCQs including a psychological test; PMDC has 180 MCQs without one. A NUMS score is valid for 1 year; a PMDC score for 3 years. Many students sit both tests to maximise their admission options.

For NUMS MDCAT 2026, the passing marks were 55% for MBBS (approximately 83 out of 150 Part A MCQs) and 50% for BDS. Passing alone does not guarantee admission — NUMS merit is calculated as Entry Test 50% + FSc 40% + Matric 10%. Army Medical College (AMC) and CMH colleges have very high closing merits, so aim well above the minimum.
A NUMS MDCAT score is valid for one year only — the NUMS MDCAT 2026 score was valid only for admissions in the MBBS/BDS Session 2026-27, as stated in the official NUMS advertisement. Unlike the PMDC MDCAT (valid for 3 years under the PM&DC Act 2022), candidates must re-sit the NUMS entry test each year they wish to apply. There is no attempt limit.
